6th Grade Recognized for Initiative in Elementary Impact

Last year, during the spring semester of 2014-15 school year, the Elementary Impact group (consisting mostly of this year's 6th grade class) put together a presentation for the USD 422 Kiowa County Board of Education requesting a basketball court be put in for students to use at recess. In preparation for that presentation, Impact students surveyed elementary kids about their access to a basketball goal and their interest in the sport, they surveyed coaches about the impact a goal could have on future players, they produced a video of students playing basketball on the playground with no goals, then researched costs and procedures to build a court, and finally they prepared for a formal proposal to the USD 422 Board of Education. This week, in celebration of September's Big Idea (initiative), the 6th graders were recognized for the work they did to get the court.
