KC Big 3 Bash: Individuality in October
This year, at Kiowa County Elementary, the KCES Impact students (5th graders) are hosting monthly assemblies at school to celebrate character. The KC Big 3 are treat others right, make smart decisions, and maximize your potential. At each KCB3B, students watch a video about our Big Idea (monthly value). October's Big Idea is "individuality." Students learn what the word means and how they can apply the word to make a positive difference in their world. Also at the KCB3B, caught-ya cards are given away. Caught-ya cards are given away at our school when one person "catches" a student doing something character-driven. There are two kinds of caught-ya cards: staff-given and student-given. Currently, 4th and 5th grade students are able to look for and recognize character-driven behavior in younger students. At October's KCB3B, there were 46 staff-given caught-ya cards and 7 student-given caught-ya cards given out.
KCES Impact also gives out an "Absolutely Extraordinary Award" to a student that practices the KC Big 3 or our Big Idea in a cool way. This month, the Absolutely Extraordinary Award was given to Marley Little. Marley has a history of being kind and she has done that "extraordinarily" consistently. She befriends new students, stands up for students when they are being mistreated, and has a reputation for being a peacemaker in her class. Because of her commitment to kindness, she was given this award. The Impact students thought that October was a good time to recognize her for her kind character because October is the month for nation-wide anti-bullying campaigns. Marley's commitment to kindness is the best way to fight bullying!
In the photos, obviously, the Impact students (KCB3B hosts) are unusually dressed. Explanation: As a part of October's focus on "individuality," Impact students were encouraged to dress in a way that demonstrated their unique talents or interests.
